Landscape Maintenance Equipment for Any Garden Job
|
A garage can easily get cluttered with all the various landscape maintenance equipment needed to keep a landscape healthy, clean, safe, attractive, and well manicured. But do you really need all those tools?
The home gardener really only needs one good spade, a square shovel, a large and small rake, a hoe and a large and small trowel. Of course if you have a lawn you will also need a good lawnmower and a weed-eater.
A good shovel should be at the top of your list of landscape maintenance equipment. A pointed shovel is referred to as a spade. This is needed for digging up weeds, planting a tree, and for turning over the dirt. A square shovel is used to make a path smooth and for snow removal.
Both shovels and rakes come in different sizes. A small rake is needed for maintaining neat flower beds by raking dead leaves from around delicate flowers and small bushes. A large rake will be needed for the huge job of clearing the multitude of leaves from the lawn that descend in the fall.
Thirdly are trowels. Trowels are available with long or short handles. A hand trowel will have a short handle suitable for planting small flowers or vegetables plants. A larger trowel with a long handle is great for creating beds.
A good set of shears and pruners are used just a few times a year when you need to cut back overgrowth or shape up your hedges. Your fruit trees need to be pruned with a set of pruners each year to encourage new growth.
Pruners are needed during the time of the year that you want to severely trim back trees. This is especially important for fruit trees to bear a good crop of fruit in their next cycle.
Our ride-on lawnmower is my husband’s personal favorite piece of landscape maintenance equipment, which he uses to mow our 2 acres. You may have very small lawn area that will only require a push style mower. The majority of people need some type of power mower.
Finally, the lawnmower, this is a basic piece of landscape maintenance equipment that every home has and is used for maintaining a beautiful lawn. Again, the lawnmower comes in a variety of sizes depending on the size of your lot. We own a ride-on lawnmower because we have over an acre of green area to maintain. Most lawnmowers come with different attachments that can be used to cut lawn, pick up leaves, and mulching jobs.
