Five Tips For Improving Your Home’s External Look

Imagine how the following tips will enhance your home's appearance by looking at it from the outside and adding them in your mind's eye.

Tip #1 – Break up the Roof Line with a Cupola

A cupola will enhance the look of the entire home when viewed from a distance and they are especially good for breaking up a monotonous ridge line, particularly if there is no chimney stack or gable ends in place.

Fitting a cupola need not just be for decorative use either as they can enhance ventilation and lighting indoors. In some instances, a more substantial structure can provide a great vantage point but no matter what style or size you choose, a cupola delivers a traditional and architecturally designed look to any building.

Tip #2 – Fit Window Shutters

Bare window frames make a home appear bland and accentuate the box like nature of many home designs. Shutters themselves can turn windows into a great feature of the house and help to break up the monotonous straight line appearance of any home.

Shutters need not be functional and be affixed purely for decorative purposes only, though in areas where the elements can provide extreme weather conditions, they also provide much needed protection for a vulnerable part of your home.

Tip #3 – Fit Replacement Window Units

Old windows can be inefficient and uneconomical as well as being a nightmare to maintain and keep up a good looking appearance. Replacing old windows with modern designed and constructed units is an easy and cheap method of instantly enhancing the appearance and value of your home. New windows can be designed with a traditional appearance to maintain your home's visual integrity.

Tip #4 – Fit a Replacement Door

The front door is more than just a means of entering and leaving your home – it is usually the visual centerpiece of the look of your entire property and more so than any other feature. Ensuring that your door is clean and well looked after is vital to maintaining the aesthetic appearance of your home; if you have an old, dirty or tatty looking front door then your entire home will assume the same feel even if it is in fact highly maintained and agreeable.

Replacing a door at the same time as your windows is an ideal way of enhancing the eye appeal of your home and keeping everything in tune together so the style of your windows is matched by that of your doors.

Tip #5 – Fit Railings and Fencing

Fitting railings and stair furniture to the front path and steps to your door will accentuate the overall look of the home and naturally draw the viewer’s eye to the centerpiece of the home. A neatly fenced yard is also aesthetically pleasing to the eye and will provide not only enhanced curb appeal but also better security and a sense of privacy.
